OPEN Silicon Valley is hosting a series of webinar to highlight candidate who have dedicated their time to serving communities they live in. This is an opportunity to meet the candidates and learn what drives them to public service and how they aspire to make positive impact in the communities they serve.

Belal Aftab is running for City Council in Saratoga on a platform of community safety, keeping Saratoga green and fiscal responsibility. Belal is currently Chair of the Traffic Safety Commission in Saratoga and Vice Chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee at the Transbay Joint Powers Authority. He is also involved in a variety of local community organizations and nonprofits. You can learn more at belalforsaratoga.com/about-me. A Saratoga native – he would be the youngest member of the Council if elected at the age of 34.

Professionally, Belal currently works at financial technology company Stripe building economic infrastructure for the Internet, where he and his team help look after the company’s largest customers. Prior to Stripe, Belal worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs, growth equity investing at a global fund and strategic operations at a consumer products company. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley.
