  • Francesc Balcells – CIO Global Emerging Market Debt

Francesc is the CIO of Global Emerging Markets Debt for FIM Partners. Previously, Francesc was an Executive Vice President at PIMCO where he was the lead portfolio manager for $17 Billion of AUM in global Emerging Market hard-and-local currency strategies. Prior to PIMCO, he was the head of EM for Rogge Capital Partners, and he was responsible for EM portfolios at the Harvard Management Company.

Francesc started his career as a sovereign analyst at Moody’s Investors Service in New York and spent 4 years as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. Francesc holds an MA in international economics and foreign affairs from the Johns Hopkins University and a BA from the University of Barcelona.

  • Matthew Vogel – Fund Manager, Responsible for Sovereign Research

Matthew is a fund manager for FIM Partners and is responsible for sovereign research. Previously, Matthew was Managing Director and Head of the Emerging Europe, Middle East, and Africa Research Team at Barclays Capital, providing coverage on rates, credit and FX products in Emerging EMEA and ranked first in Eleonora survey of top Emerging EMEA research.

Before this, he worked for Merrill Lynch and the World Bank in Washington, focusing on Latin America and Eastern Europe/CIS countries. Matthew holds a BA in Latin American Studies and Economics from the University of Texas (1988) and an MA in Economics from the Instituto Torcuato diTella (Argentina, 1989).

  • Shabu Qureshi – Founder, Q Capital

Shabu is the founder of Q Capital, an investment holding company that invests in real estate and emerging markets special situations. Prior to that, he was a partner at EMP Global, a Washington DC based emerging markets private equity investment manager, where he was responsible for the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. Earlier in his career, he worked on emerging markets fixed-income at Salomon Brothers, and as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs.

He sits on a number of boards, including that of TRG Pakistan (The Resource Group Pakistan), a company involved in the global operations and technology of business process outsourcing centers. He has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Swarthmore College.
