About Hassan Bhatti

Hassan is a technology entrepreneur with a track record of commercializing deep-tech projects into successful businesses. Most recently, he was a co-founder of CryptoNumerics, a data privacy and machine learning startup backed by LUX capital. It was acquired by Snowflake in July 2020.

He is currently a leader in Snowflake’s data marketplace product team, where he works on strategic Partnerships & Business Development opportunities globally. Additionally, he is a co-founder & board member of Semantic Health, a venture-backed healthcare startup, an active angel investor, and an Investment Partner at Community Fund.

In addition to his professional engagements, he is involved in the community as an advisory member of Century Initiative and a mentor at various Canadian & Pakistani incubators. He holds a BSc in Physics and Economics from the University of British Columbia where he was an International Scholar.

About Dr. Mariam Kiran

Dr. Kiran is a Research Scientist in the Scientific Networking Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California, and leads research efforts in AI solutions for operational network research and engineering problems. She received her Ph.D. and MSc (Eng) in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield, UK in 2011, 2009, respectively.

Her work focuses on machine learning and decentralized optimization of distributed computing system architectures, wide area networks, wireless, and Cloud infrastructures, with an emphasis on deep learning and reinforcement learning algorithms for designing and building end-to-end self-driving networks. She is also one of the developers of FLAME an open-source agent-based framework being used world-wide for multi-disciplinary research. Before joining the lab, Kiran worked at various Universities of Sheffield, Leeds, and University College London, with collaborations with European industries such as SAP, ATOS, and BT. She was selected as the Royal Society’s Scientists in Westminster in 2015 and is the recipient of the 2017 U.S. DOE Early Career Award. She is a member of ACM and a Senior IEEE member.
